RINGGOLD, Ga. — Calhoun High School senior Jaden Perkins knows the driving force behind his basketball team having a great season up to this point has been its ability to overwhelm opponents with standout defense.
On the rare occasion when the Yellow Jackets are not in tip-top form on that end of the court, though, Perkins has proven to be a worthy long-range assassin.
And on Wednesday night, it was Perkins’ 3-point shooting that helped provide the difference in Calhoun’s hard-earned 77-73 victory at Heritage in GHSA Region 7-AAA play as the regular season hits the stretch run.
Perkins finished with a team-high 20 points and five 3-pointers, which included two in the fourth quarter to help build a 10-point lead with 2:30 to play. He also made five 3-pointers earlier this season in a confidence-building 77-76 win over Cartersville during a Christmas break tournament.
Outside of those two high-scoring victories, Calhoun (15-2, 8-0) has allowed an average of just 40.4 points per game this season.
