Sammy Seamster is excited for the future of Brainerd High School athletics with new support coming soon.

Recently, Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp released new renderings of a plan for Brainerd High to renovate the football complex, along with the construction of a brand-new gymnasium to be accompanied by new locker rooms and a weight room. The plans also include building a new softball field, with all of the upgrades set to be completed by the start of the 2027-28 school year.

Serving as a staple in the Chattanooga community since 1960, Brainerd’s athletic facility upgrade looks to help restore pride for a program with great tradition.

“The community is excited about the future of Brainerd athletics,” said Seamster, who played five seasons in the NFL after starring for Ooltewah High School and Middle Tennessee State University and is in his fourth year as the Panthers head coach. “What has been holding us back here has been everybody else around us getting new facilities, turf fields, and more investment.

“Kids like new and shiny things, so for us to be getting those things soon will make more of our student-athletes want to stay here. They will have something to be proud of.”
