The city of Chattanooga has officially purchased a few acres of an old golf course off Mountain Creek Road.
In December, city officials said the land could possibly turn into a parks project. The defunct Quarry golf course has had a couple of proposals for development, with an apartment project there killed by the Chattanooga City Council in 2021. Now, the city has officially bought the land for about $900,000, and officials are working to figure out the best use for it.
Council member Chip Henderson of Lookout Valley, who represents the area, said by phone that the next steps will be community meetings to determine what residents in the neighboring areas want to see the city do with the land.
“I think it’s a big win for the residents of Mountain Creek having a green space there instead of apartments that have been proposed,” he said.
