Charles Fant is ecstatic to try and carry on the winning tradition of Boyd Buchanan’s high school football program.
After working under legendary coach Gary Rankin — the winningest coach in TSSAA history with 17 state titles – the past two years, Fant is ready for his first season as head coach of the Buccaneers.
Fant finds himself on a familiar sideline, as he served as offensive coordinator during the Bucs’ lone state championship run in 2003. Now, he inherits one of the state’s most consistent programs over the past three seasons, where Boyd Buchanan has won 36 games and also carries a 22-game Division II-AA East Region winning streak into this fall.
“There are no questions about the standards we had with coach Rankin,” Fant said. “The standard doesn’t change. The players are just hearing a different voice as their head coach. I don’t probably yell as loud, but I am still strict and stern with the players. We have high standards and our kids want to be held accountable.”
