Local developer Burgin Homebuilders is creating the Chattanooga area’s first “agrihood,” a residential community built around features involving the production of fresh food and a growing trend in real estate across the country.
According to the Urban Land Institute, developments based on the agrihood concept had popped up in 27 states as of 2018.
Located in Soddy-Daisy near Soddy Lake and the foothills of Walden’s Ridge, the Still Hollow agrihood features 1-acre wooded lots with homes designed specifically for each site to blend with nature.
“I’m trying to keep the topography,” builder Matt Burgin said in an interview. “We’re trying to just kind of fit in with what’s already there, instead of forcing our way on it and just totally changing the land.”
Still Hollow aims to balance modern amenities with a natural environment, promoting a healthy, community-focused lifestyle, he said.
