Boyd Buchanan has turned to a familiar face to take over as the next head coach of its high school football program.

Charles Fant, the former Notre Dame High School head coach who has been an assistant at Boyd Buchanan the past two seasons, has been promoted to lead the Buccaneers. Fant takes over for Gary Rankin, who resigned in early February after four successful seasons.

“Charles being well-respected statewide, he’s had a lot of success, and his overall body of work plus his previous experience here all made him a great fit,” said Boyd Buchanan athletic director Matt Pobieglo, who added that the school had nearly 100 applicants and interviewed seven candidates.

“Knowing the community and having worked with our program for the past two years, he’s developed a lot of relationships that will help the transition. We are thrilled to have Coach Fant lead our football program. His passion for Boyd Buchanan, his ability to pour into our community, his leadership qualities, spiritual mentorship, and proven success on and off the field make him an outstanding selection.”

Fant, who is in his second stint working at Boyd Buchanan, was as an offensive assistant the past two years.
