Development of the former U.S. Pipe/Wheland Foundry land around the new Lookouts stadium is making progress, an attorney for the site owners wrote in response to a Hamilton County official’s concerns about the pace of construction.
Kirby Yost, an attorney at the local firm Chambliss, provided a timeline of the first phase of private development by Erlanger Park in a letter sent Friday to County Attorney Janie Varnell and obtained by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
The $115 million minor league baseball stadium, jointly owned by the city and county, is set to open April 14. The letters sent between the county and the owners of the surrounding land concern the first phase of private development planned next to the stadium.
Local group Perimeter Properties owns the foundry land and sold a parcel to Atlanta-based New City Properties in 2024. New City plans to begin construction soon on a 300-unit apartment complex and an 80,000-square-foot office tower bordering the stadium.
“Despite macroeconomic headwinds, the foundries district surrounding Erlanger Park is moving ahead with momentum,” Yost said.
