Hamilton County Commission primary winner Katherlyn Geter, set to sail through the general election with no opponent, said she has concerns about the recently announced plan to close the county’s dental clinic.
The closure of the Third Street clinic and another county assistance program will eliminate 15 positions and end reduced-cost and free dental services for children and young adults.
The closure comes on the heels of two county-run health clinics shutting their doors, one in Soddy-Daisy and the other in Ooltewah.
Geter has no opposition in her bid to become the next commissioner for District 5, which includes Brainerd, Woodmore, Washington Hills, Eastdale, and Ridgeside. She said her first step is learning the reason behind County Mayor Weston Wamp’s decision to close the dental clinic.
“The second step is to be at that table with Mayor Wamp and the rest of the county commissioners and our Health Department officials to better understand,” she said in an interview after winning Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
