The most basic — and important — responsibility for any local newspaper is to provide accurate information to readers in the community it serves. Or as the motto that runs across the top of the Chattanooga Times Free Press main front page each day states: “To give the news impartially, without fear or favor.”
Sometimes that news includes reporting on the inner workings of the TFP itself.
If you are holding a printed copy of the Sunday edition for Nov. 1, 2026, it is the last version that will be printed on the old press inside the building at 400 E. 11th St., which served as the newspaper’s operating base for the past 60 years.
Beginning next weekend, the TFP will print the Sunday paper in Knoxville, which will require an earlier deadline (6 p.m. Saturday instead of 11:30) for all pages to be sent to press. The section most affected will be Sports, where coverage for games that begin later than midday will likely appear only on our website, timesfreepress.com.
That includes our “Page 2 bits,” or what some readers refer to as the “statistics page,” which is where the league standings, results and schedules appear in smaller agate type. Because the scores and standings that make up much of that page would not be updated by our earlier deadline, the space it would have occupied will consist of more feature stories, although the TV listings will still be part of the print edition. We will, however, include the statistics page as part of our replica section, which subscribers have access to, because those pages are not constricted by the early print deadline.
