Across the country and since the 2020 presidential election, Democrats have said illegal voting did not exist or was so minute it could be dismissed.
We have never believed enough illegal votes were cast in the 2020 presidential election to change the outcome, as President Donald Trump alleged, but recent number of arrests of citizens who are innocent until proven guilty assure us much more illegal voting has occurred and is occurring than Democrats believe.
For instance:
› Two U.S. attorney’s offices in Washington State identified more than 400 noncitizens — legal permanent residents but not allowed to vote — who are registered to vote in the state and have voted.
The offices Monday asked state election officials to segregate ballots from the 400 people.
“This is only the tip of the iceberg,” Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd said. “We will continue to investigate and identify those who are committing crimes by voting illegally.”
Pete Serrano, first assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, said free and fair elections should be the concern of every United States citizen.
“Our goal in sharing this information with the state of Washington is to ensure that Washington citizens’ votes are protected in this and future elections,” he said.
› The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday announced charges that involve 48 noncitizens in California, Florida, Nevada, New York and Pennsylvania in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration and related election crimes that included both voting in federal elections and false claims of U.S. citizenship to register to vote or to vote.
About half of those charged were in California, which has the nation’s largest number of noncitizens (more than 5 million). They not only hailed from Mexico, Caribbean and Central American countries but also from places such as Cambodia, Canada, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Kenya, Netherlands, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland and Russia.
It was determined that they variously voted in the 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2026 elections. One man who was charged even voted twice in 2022.
› Ten noncitizens were arrested earlier this month for illegally voting in several U.S. elections in North Carolina. Several of them also had extensive criminal histories that included possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver, assault, driving while impaired, larceny and fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle.
One of those charged voted in seven general elections from 2008 to 2024.
“These aliens have been arrested and charged with illegally voting in multiple elections,” Department of Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. “They knowingly violated our laws. Now, thanks to the devoted patriots of HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) and our partners at the Department of Justice, these aliens will have to answer for violating the sacred right of Americans to elect their own leadership.
“Let this be a message to any noncitizens out there who are thinking about voting in our elections,” he added. “If you illegally vote, we will arrest you, and you will be charged. Only American citizens should be electing American leaders.”
Recent arrests of noncitizen for illegally voting in the U.S. also have been made in Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. They, too, have variously voted in U.S. elections since 2008.
› Earlier this month, 28 noncitizens from across California were arrested after it was alleged they illegally registered to vote or voted in a California election. The charges came only days after federal authorities filed suit against the state and Los Angeles election officials that asked to force the officials not to count up to 20,000 registered voters’ ballots because federal prosecutors suspected they are noncitizens.
We hope local, state and federal officials keep the accelerator on in uncovering and prosecuting such activities and that more people push for photo IDs in order to vote.
