Instead of letting frustration get the best of her in a scoreless first half, Notre Dame’s Saylor Schalk locked in and was masterful the rest of the way.

In the 73rd minute, the junior settled a missed clearance by East Hamilton with her body for a booming one-touch strike past two defenders and a diving keeper into the left side of the net. The goal was Schalk’s fourth of the second half in a 5-1 comeback road victory on the Patrick Daverson Soccer Field.

“Being down 1-0 at halftime lit a fire underneath us,” Schalk said. “It really helped push us to be better and play to our standard. My teammates really provided me great opportunities to score. Lia Gunther’s sweet assist at the right post to me really put the icing on the cake when we scored our third goal near the 60th minute.

“Tonight was special for me. I have scored four goals in games before, but this was my first time doing it in one half — and to do it with our team down is even more meaningful.”
