Printing company cleans up inks, recycles scraps

* What: Sustainable paper printing

* Company: Adams Lithographing Co.

* Location: 2210 Chapman Road

* How it's green: The family that owns and operates the company has taken several steps in the past few years to become environmentally friendly. Brothers Wyatt, Jason and Bryan Hogue said the company recycles every bit of scrap paper and all aluminum plating material. It uses eco-friendly products such as soy-based inks and paper that comes from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests.

* Why do it this way? Not only are the company's efforts to further environmental sustainability helpful for its goals but by offering paper products from certified forests with strict international standards, the company also helps customers in their goals to be green. It's also a way for the company to do its part in helping the environment, Wyatt Hogue said. "Everyone always thinks they'll be gone when these things become a problem, but if everyone keeps passing the buck, where does it end?" he asked.

* Plans for expanding: The company is always looking for new avenues to help make its business more environmentally friendly. "Anything new that's green, we're going to do it," Jason Hogue said.

* Advice for others considering green initiatives: The brothers say the key to going green is finding what works for your business and what is feasible. It's up to each individual business to search for ways to be environmentally friendly, they said.

* Is environmentalism an essential part of the business and why? Environmentalism isn't a core part of the everyday operations at the company, but it is a facet of the overall operation.
