EPB gigabit service coming to Chattanooga Airport

Chattanooga Airport will offer EPB's gigabit Internet service to airline passengers within the next few weeks.

EPB and airport officials have entered into an agreement that will replace the existing Internet and WiFi service at the passenger terminal with the power board's ultra-fast offering, at no cost to Lovell Field patrons, said Terry Hart, the airport's chief executive.

EPB also plans to set up a demonstration area for its high-speed Internet in the former gift shop near the security checkpoint, Hart told the Airport Authority board on Monday.

The power board will provide computers and video gaming devices to show off its Internet service.

"What a better way to welcome people to the Gig City," said EPB spokesman John Pless.

The airport isn't charging EPB for the space, and EPB is offering its Internet service at no cost to the airport, Hart said.

"It's an even trade," he said. Hart estimated the high-speed Internet is a $50,000-a-year value to the airport.

He said EPB will receive advertising space as well.

Hart said the power board will not put caps or limits on airport customers. Airnet Gorup is the existing WiFi provider, he said.

"Today's provider was a bit limited," the airport official said. "It's not providing a level of service the customer demanded."

Pless said the service will show "the power of the Gig."

"It's a great way to market" the service, he said.

Last week, EPB began offering its high-speed WiFi service at Miller Plaza. The plaza is privately owned by The River City Co. but operates as a public space for Chattanooga residents and visitors.
