Greeneville policeman killed, his son charged

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – A Greeneville city police officer has been shot to death and his teenage son charged with his murder.

The Greeneville Sun reported 18-year-old Ethan Alexander Self was charged on Thursday night after an investigation into the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Sgt. Roger Self.

A Greene County Sheriff’s detective made the arrest, charging the Greeneville High School senior with first-degree murder.

Sheriff Steve Burns said Ethan Self admitted during questioning by county and TBI officers that he shot his father as the man slept on Wednesday. The victim’s body was discovered by another officer after the sergeant failed to report to work Wednesday night.

Burns declined to discuss possible motive in the shooting.
