Salvation Army extends Angel Tree program

More children are asking for help this holiday season, but fewer people are offering.

Salvation Army has extended its deadline to adopt children from the Angel Tree program from Sunday to Dec. 10.

The Angel Tree program chooses needy children and elderly residents and finds gifts that other people can buy for them. The gift-givers are given the recipient’s name, age, gender, clothing size and Christmas wishes to help find the best gift.

On Nov. 30, Salvation Army spokeswoman Kimberly Kyriakidis George said 1,859 children and elderly people still needed to be adopted.

This year, the Salvation Army registered 4,505 angels, a 48 percent increase from two years ago, George said.
