Nick Saban isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The only coach in major college football history with seven national championships has reached an agreement to remain at Alabama through the 2028 season. The 69-year-old Saban, who has guided the Crimson Tide to national titles in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017 and last season, will have a base salary and talent fee of $8.425 million this year and will have that increase throughout the life of the new deal.
Alabama announced that Saban will receive a contract completion benefit of $800,000 that will be payable at the end of the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 contract years.
“Terry and I are pleased and happy to sign another contract extension that will keep us in Tuscaloosa through the end of our career,” Saban said Monday in a release. “Our family calls Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama home, and it’s a place where our roots now run deep.”
Since a 7-6 debut season in Tuscaloosa in 2007, which included the program’s sixth consecutive loss to rival Auburn and ended with a trip to the Independence Bowl, Saban has guided the Crimson Tide to a dazzling 163-17 record that includes seven Southeastern Conference championships.
