A Charleston, Tenn.-based road construction company has been awarded a $93 million contract to improve a 3.4-mile stretch of road in Collegedale, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Wright Brothers Construction Co., Inc., located in Bradley County, has been named as the recipient of the contract from TDOT valued at $93,100,903.71 to widen and improve the Apison Pike corridor from SR321/Ooltewah-Ringgold Road to east of Layton Lane near the Collegedale Municipal Airport.
The project, which is expected to be completed on or before June 30, 2025, involves grading, drainage, the construction of several new bridges and retaining walls, signals and paving. At completion, the road will have five lanes with curb and gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes and greenway connections, the release states.
TDOT says much of the project will be constructed on a new alignment, including a large bridge that is planned to span the railroad tracks.
Drivers should begin to see work on the project starting in early 2020.
TDOT and Wright Brothers will work to finalize the contract and hold a preconstruction conference over the next several weeks, according to the release.
