ATTENTION: CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AHEAD

How important is it that workers not be forced to join a labor union (if one is organized at one’s place of business), and not be forced to pay dues to a union to get or keep a job?

We think what’s called a right-to-work law is pretty important, and Tennessee’s Republican governor, Bill Lee, is putting his name on a drive, “Yes on 1,” in hopes that voters will agree. Tennessee legislators passed a bill during the spring that would enshrine the law in the state constitution, and a majority of voters who cast a ballot in the governor’s race in the fall of 2022 must vote “yes” in order to make it so. You can read more about our take on it below.

Among the other subjects we explored last week were the dilemma about whether government grows as a result of Hamilton County adding more early voting sites, and the efficacy of Chattanooga sponsoring a supervised tent city for homeless individuals on a lot off 12th Street. We have questions, and we hope city councilpersons do, too. Check out those editorials, the weekly Ron Hart musings and a Ramesh Ponnuru commentary on the “absurdity” and continued “weakness” of the Biden White House’s effort to persuade people what they don’t see – that the country’s on the right track, below.
