2010 — Happy New Year!

Perhaps most of us are optimists, no matter what we encounter. But some are pessimists. Still, it is traditional for us to leave the old year behind and enter the new one with a wish that we all will have a truly “Happy New Year!”

We wish everyone a happy 2010!

Of course, there will be countless “unknowns” in the new year. There are things we can do — and not do — that may help us be happy, successful and optimistic in 2010. But there are also events that we can’t control, that surely will affect us, individually, spiritually, healthwise, economically, among our families and friends, locally, nationally and worldwide.

The challenge, of course, is for us to do the best we can to, as the old Johnny Mercer popular song says, “Ac-centuate the positive, e-liminate the negative — and don’t mess with Mr. In-between.”

Great advice!

We do live in the midst of countless complexities. But our attitudes, our efforts, our cautions and our darings will make a lot of differences. While we can’t control everything, we can control many things — or at least affect or modify them by the way we do things, strive and work.

While we cannot surely predict most things in 2010, we can affect them by good judgment, good wishes and good efforts. They will affect our circumstances, and those of others around us.

We enter the New Year with many challenges — but also many blessings. May we use our valued freedom to “accentuate the positive” and do the best we can to produce a “Happy New Year” — for ourselves and all others who share good will.
