RINGGOLD, Ga. – The husband of a former teacher charged with child molestation testified this morning that he never knew Tonya Craft to bathe any children but her own.
David Craft also testified that the first of three girls making the allegations never spent the night at their house in Chickamauga.
Mr. Craft took the witness stand as a defense witness in the trial.
Ms. Craft, a former Chickamauga Elementary School teacher, is charged with 22 counts of child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and aggravated child molestation.
Defense attorney Scott King led Mr. Craft through details of the parties during which, the girls allege, Ms. Craft molested them.
At one of the parties in October 2007, at which the second child claims Ms. Craft molested her, Mr. Craft testified the child hadn’t spent the night.
Mr. King asked why the couple had separated for several months, and Mr. Craft said it was his fault.
“I quit on my wife,” Mr. Craft said, explaining that was before the allegations against her came out.
Ms. Craft is expected to take the stand next after her husband’s cross-examination.
