Many Americans like animals, and it’s reasonable to expect pets to be treated humanely.
But as on so many other matters, the city of San Francisco may take that commonsense idea to an extreme. It is considering the outright ban of the sale of any pets inside city limits.
Some officials and “animal rights” activists argue that selling pets often subjects them to cruel treatment. They also say that banning animal sales would boost the adoption of animals from shelters.
Everything from guppies to German shepherds would be included in San Francisco’s ban.
As the Los Angeles Times put it, “If it flies, crawls, runs, swims or slithers, you would not be able to buy it in the city … .”
