The Cherokee County, Ala. Sheriff’s Office remains tight-lipped on the identity of the victim in a slaying case that has landed one man in jail on murder charges and drawn an FBI search team from Quantico, Va., to Northeast Alabama.

More than a week ago, authorities charged 63-year-old Cedar Bluff, Ala., resident Terry Lee McKinney in connection with the homicide, but there has been no official word on the identity of the victim. The victim’s remains were found March 29 along a roadside in the Cedar Bluff area.

Deputies recovered those remains and recovered more remains along County Road 82.

Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton sent the body to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification.

On Saturday, an FBI K-9 team arrived in Cherokee County to help with the search for evidence along Alabama Highway 273 and County Road 47 on the Leesburg side of Weiss Lake, according to officials.

Also on Saturday, McKinney was transferred from the Cherokee County Jail to another facility in a nearby county, officials said.

Officials said on Tuesday that no new details are being released for now.
