Central High choir thrives under new direction

Central High School senior Jeffree Dean, who has scored a spot singing the national anthem at a Lookouts baseball game July 25, is hoping to also add Carnegie Hall to the list of places he’s performed.

He and his classmate Cassidy Anderson are both auditioning for the American High School Honors Performance Series that provides an opportunity for elite high school students to perform with other talented musicians from across the nation at Carnegie Hall.

“My dream is New York,” said Dean. “To be able to sing at Carnegie Hall is every musician’s dream.”

According to his choir teacher Colene Birchfield, Dean is a rare and exceptional student. His talent as a classical singer and his passion for music make him stand out, she said.

“He is the student every choir director wants in their choir,” said Birchfield. “He makes musical suggestions and picks out quality choral music for the group to perform.”
