Man didn’t cause the Ice ages

This letter is in regard to a letter which appeared in the Feb. 21 paper titled “Research verifies temperature rise.” The writer references research by Svante Arrhenius, a Swedish physicist, stating that an increase in CO2 caused the Ice Ages. Can someone please tell all of those global warming people, who/what caused that CO2 increase that ushered in the Ice Ages.

Common sense proves man didn’t cause the Ice Ages but science can’t prove what did! The only thing proven is that it did occur. Do you think, maybe, it could be naturally occurring cycles? God promised he would never flood the earth again, but he didn’t promise he wouldn’t freeze it, or burn it for that fact.

City should be able to find more cuts

Having been a councilman in a city of 50,000 in Florida, I know how difficult budget time can be. According to your article in Tuesday’s edition, the Chattanooga City Council may consider a tax hike to balance the current budget, which is facing a $1.5 million shortfall.

I find it difficult to believe the council can’t find a way to cut just 0.8 percent more ($1.5 million/$167.5 million), and do it with no discernible reduction in services.

In fact, I would be willing to work as a consultant to the council and guarantee that I could find that 0.8 percent or receive no compensation. But, if I did find that 0.8 percent, or more, my fee would be 5 percent of any amount saved, pretty fair considering that for all intents and purposes, the budget would be balanced with no tax hike. I’ll hold my breath while I’m waiting for the job offer.

Biblical text serves as sermon

Ever think of the most well-known text, John 3:16, as being a sermon in itself. I lay awake last night pondering this and this is a portion of the result.

It starts with “For God so loved the world” (not chunks of rock or flowers but a people that are capable of returning that love) “that He gave his only begotten Son,” (One of the co-Creators Who became a Man giving up some Godly attributes to live as a substitute for me) “that whosoever believeth in Him” (and there’s the catch, believe in Him meaning to act as He would act, do good as He did, etc.) “should not perish,” (cease to exist, finished, kaput, never to be heard from again) “but have everlasting life (in a paradise incomprehensible forever).

If this sounds boring, think of all the other worlds God has created, some with intelligent creatures as alluded to in Job, that you can visit. And all the things you can learn with a brain unencumbered with the cares of this life.

Boy, I can’t wait and am glad of my choice to follow Him instead of that other guy, another created being, who many have chosen to follow.

U.S. should avoid financial Waterloo

America must avoid Greek financial fiasco.

Peter Drucker said, “An effective executive does first things first and he does them one at a time.”

With California, New York, and Michigan already being declared failed states, and with a $60 trillion unfunded deficit for Social Security spending, America must avoid the financial Waterloo that will occur with passing an expensive health bill.

And should Iran get the nuclear bomb, they will not hesitate to pass it on to a “rogue” bomb thrower.

Capitalism has provided far more benefits than any other system. Capitalism will also provide better health care for Americans. Socialism makes people slaves of the government, robbing them of jobs and financial independence.
