Have you gotten your flu shot?
I’ve been asked several times this week if I’ve received my flu shot yet this year. Two miserable bouts with the flu – once in high school and again in college, the year of the swine flu (H1N1) pandemic – were enough for me to do everything in my power to never get it again. I’m a big believer in the vaccine and have gotten a flu shot every year for the last 10 years (and have been flu free!).
That being said, I’m ashamed to admit that I still need to get mine. Normally we have a company health fair that helps me easily check that off my to-do list while in the newsroom. But those plans had to be scrapped with the pandemic, and most of us are still working from home. It’s a lame excuse considering all the opportunities around town to get one, including for free through the health department.
I’m saying all this now to (1) hold myself accountable that I WILL go this week, and (2) so that all you procrastinators know you’re not alone, and it’s definitely not too late! Let’s do everything we can to stay healthy and prevent a “twindemic.”
