Defendant in robbery fights to change plea

Ladarius Tramell Taylor pleaded guilty last year to a 2008 home invasion but before he could be sentenced, he changed his mind.

On Monday, Taylor’s defense attorney, Mitchell Carter Jr., and Hamilton County Assistant District Attorney Bret Alexander argued in court whether Taylor could withdraw his plea.

“So in July he had a trial date, didn’t show, set a pretrial conference and pleaded guilty?” Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman asked, trying to make sense of events that led Taylor to his court.

After about 30 minutes of discussion, the judge moved the case for a possible hearing on Feb. 14.

Neither Alexander nor Carter would comment for the story, saying they do not talk about ongoing cases.
