Davidson Road study deadline approaches

As the calendar year comes to a close and the beginning of fiscal year 2018 draws nearer, residents are hoping city officials have not forgotten about Davidson Road.

For years, locals have raised concerns about the road’s narrowness and constant flooding due to drainage issues, citing more than a dozen minor accidents, including sideswipes, mirror smashes and an incident in which a car ran into an unguarded culvert along the road.

And with the Chattanooga Department of Transportation and Public Works Department conducting a study to find cost-effective solutions to improve safety and drainage on the road, those advocates are anxious about the city’s progress.

“If the city drags their feet and we don’t get a proper study done, we’re not going to have time to request money in next year’s budget to start repairing this road,” said Alan Reimann, longtime Council Fire resident and founder of the Davidson Road Improvement Committee.

The fiscal year starts July 1, but City Councilman Larry Grohn, who represents the area, said the study needs to be complete and any resultant budget requests submitted no later than the third week of January.
