Senate panel OKs TVA board nominees

The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today approved four White House nominees for the Tennessee Valley Authority.

If confirmed by the full Senate, the four appointments will fill the nine-member TVA board, which has been operating with a minimum five-member quorum since January.

The TVA nominations approved today by a voice vote from the Senate panel include Dr. Marilyn A. Brown, a professor at Georgia Tech who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore for her work on global warming; Dr. Barbara S. Haskew, a Middle Tennessee State University professor of labor relations and a former TVA manager; Neil McBride, an Oak Ridge attorney; and William B. Sansom, a Knoxville businessman who formerly was chairman of TVA.
