All deserve a fair shake
I have just read that health care spending rose to $2.5 trillion in 2009. That is $8,047 for each person in the U.S. While some of our fellow citizens have good insurance policies, many more will have to forgo well- deserved medical treatment because they cannot afford the cost.
Many of us work at so-called menial jobs, supporting our nation at its nitty-gritty seams. We bring smiles to the tired when we wait on their tables, we mend the streets, we may even be smoothing out bed sheets in the country’s hospitals. We may not spend so much in the nation’s stores today, because we have been forced to cut back because of the recession. We may also have been told that our waitress job, our construction job, our nurse’s assistant job is now unavailable because our employer has been forced to cut back, too.
The point is that each and every one of us loves our country and does our best to support it and our families living here. Is it too much to ask that we have a chance at getting a health insurance plan that would give us a fair shake at getting well when the chips are really down and we are sick?
People are sick and dying today as I write this. Health care reform cannot wait for them! Please, lawmakers, remember the faces of the people you saw on the campaign trail, the people who believed in you and voted for you when you take your stand on health care reform.

Tebow ad about making a choice
On Sunday, I watched the much-maligned ad that addressed Tim Tebow and his mother and her decision not to have an abortion which would have left us a world without her son, Tim.
Prior to the event, there were outcries from large numbers of people stating what a detriment this was. These criers cast CBS in a very negative light over this commercial and the “pro-choice” movement cried, “foul!”
After viewing the ad (which can be found at: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/02/tim-tebow-super-bowl-ad-focus-on-the-family.html), it is very easy to see why this ad does nothing more than cast a positive light on choice. Tim’s mom made a choice. It was not the choice the “pro-choice” people would have her to make, but none-the-less a choice.
It occurred to me that the “pro-choice” folks are really not about choice unless it is their choice.
Why is it that they were so riled up about this? After all, isn’t choice what they are supposed to be about?
Could it possibly be that casting family in a positive light is precisely the choice that they do not wish to hear?
Don’t know about you, but it would appear to me that this is the kind of choice that makes sense!

Bring health plan into 21st century
I write this letter to express my concern that the people of our local community may not stand up to support the health care bill that has been proposed by President Obama.
We are so close to actually gaining ground on the issue that we cannot stop now. Every day, costs and premiums are going up. A new study shows that health care spending rose to almost $2.5 trillion in 2009, or $8,047 per person. This number is expected to double by 2019.
This is not a problem that can wait another decade, or even another year. Change has to be made now. The time has come to stand and take the power away from lobbyists and special interest groups. Let’s give power back to the people. It’s our country. Let us stand together, with our president, and bring our health care system into the 21st century.

Kia plant shows what we can expect
There has been a lot of information regarding just how much of an impact VW will have on our region. I think the Chattanooga Times Free Press articles about KIA really demonstrate what we can anticipate for the future.
Go back and read the stories and look what KIA did for West Point, Ga., a small town that had lost thousands of textile jobs over the last several years. The plant has already employed 1,200 workers with another 850 to be hired over the next couple of months.
The supplier park is beginning to fill up and local retailers including restaurants and others are thriving.
VW could have chosen to build a plant anywhere in the world and they chose Chattanooga. Thanks again, VW.

Where was respect from Democrats?
Several days ago someone wrote complaining that the Democratic Party was not being given enough “respect,” so he writes “Don’t you think our national party along with talk radio and Fox News are doing enough damage?…”
Now, wasn’t it Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat and speaker of the House, who proclaimed that those people who showed up at protests over the summer were racists, perhaps even Nazis sympathizers? Where was the “respect” for those American citizens?
And wasn’t it Harry Reid, a Democrat, who spoke from the Senate floor and suggested that people who opposed ObamaCare were also those who favored slavery? And that was long after Reid, leader of the Senate, referred to “then” President George Bush as “a loser.” Where was the “respect” for the president of the United States?
Well, a note to all you Democrats: All of us will be at the polls in November to make sure all of you are “losers.” Yes, as Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, so proudly proclaimed, “The chickens have finally come home to roost.”

Visit churches, see true Christianity
In a recent Letters to the Editors (“‘Fake Christians’ running rampant”), the writer lumps being a Christian with being in the GOP. He also states that there are many fake Christians running rampant.
As Christians and followers of Jesus Christ, we would like to extend an open invitation to attend any one of Chattanooga’s strong, New Testament Bible-teaching churches and see for yourself what true Christianity is all about.
Come and see congregations that are made up of people of all colors, nationalities and social status. Come and meet imperfect people who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, who have a true and genuine love for their Creator, Savior and fellow man. Come and spend some time with people who truly believe that the most important thing in their life is not their political affiliation, but their attempt to live by the living word of the Holy Bible. Come and surround yourself with the body of Christ, people who desire to make a difference for good in this world by loving one another and helping those in need.
This is what true Christianity is all about. What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD… (Psalm 33:12).
