ATLANTA – Gov. Sonny Perdue has spoken out in support of letting an illegal immigrant finish getting her degree at Kennesaw State University – as long as she pays out-of-state tuition.
Atlanta’s WSB-TV reports that Perdue offered his opinion on the controversial student after chatting with Board of Regents Chairman Bob Hatcher Monday. The school decided to let Jessica Colotl finish her final year even after immigration officials learned she was living in the United States illegally.
Perdue says it’s important that officials operate with compassion when it comes to immigration decision.
Immigration officials learned Colotl was here illegally after she was pulled over for a minor traffic violation on campus. They agreed to defer her status for one year, though some want her sent home immediately.
