ACORN’s overdue farewell

We may finally have seen the last of the corrupt liberal organization ACORN, short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

ACORN’s funding has dried up, and it has announced that it is filing for bankruptcy.

It is a shame that the 40-year-old organization lasted as long as it has. Its corruption runs deep.

Back in 2008, hundreds of thousands of voter registration forms that ACORN workers turned in had to be disqualified. Many of the names that were thrown out were obviously phony. Some names appeared on multiple forms. Some were simply made up.

Two years earlier, about 1,800 registrations were turned in by ACORN in Seattle – but only six of the names proved valid!

There was also a major scandal when ACORN workers were caught giving financial advice to a man and woman posing as a pimp and a prostitute. The workers were filmed explaining how the man and woman could claim underage prostitutes as dependents.

What makes the whole situation worse is that ACORN got tens of millions of taxpayer dollars over the years for its “activities.” That money was at last cut off after the various scandals erupted over the past few years.

ACORN’s CEO defiantly defended the group’s “integrity” when she announced the bankruptcy filing. She called ACORN a victim of “extremist attacks,” Tribune Newspapers reported.

In fact, the American taxpayer was a victim of ACORN. It is a relief that the group will no longer get any tax dollars.
