The Colonnade Players, by special arrangement with Music Theatre International, will bring “Songs for a New World” to The Colonnade stage beginning Friday, Nov. 2.

Under the direction of James Ogden and musical direction of Terry Sanford, a cast of four men and four women will perform the beautiful music and lyrics of Jason Robert Brown. For this production, Brown put together songs he had written for other venues and events, resulting in neither a musical nor a revue, but something closer to a song cycle.

The song cycle weaves together stories of everyday people in their search for a new world and a better life. From the opening song about the promise of a new life in America (“On the Deck of a Spanish Sailing Ship, 1492”) to songs about love (“I’d Give It All for You”) and death (“Flying Home”), the music reveals hopes, dreams, fears and failures.

Cast members are Haley Blake, Hannah Hale, Eric Jackson, Julianna McKenna, Joseph Watts, Kenya White, Jennifer Wilson and Jonathan Wilson.
