The Chattanooga Fire Department put out three separate fires and made one arrest on Thursday.
“I hope we slow down a bit,” said Lt. Henry McElvain. “It’s odd that we had that many fires in one day.”
Two of the fires were a block from each other in South Chattanooga, and the third fire and associated arrest, occurred in East Lake.
McElvain is a part of the fire department’s Fire Investigation Division, and he said the East Lake fire at 1911 E. 34th St. was immediately reported to dispatchers as arson.
When firefighters arrived they were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Chris Willmore. No one was injured in the blaze.
Residents in the house told investigators that they believed 38-year-old Kelvin Dewain Moore, who lived at the residence, set the fire.
McElvain said investigators felt like they had enough testimony and evidence from their investigation of the scene to charge Moore with aggravated arson.
He was taken by Chattanooga Police Department officers to the Hamilton County Jail.
Hours earlier, in South Chattanooga, firefighters were returning to the station after putting out a blaze at 1705 E. Main St., when they saw a black plume of smoke about a block away.
When firefighters went to investigate, they found a duplex on fire at 1808 E. 13th St., according to Bruce Garner, spokesman for the Chattanooga Fire Department.
Only minor injuries were reported in those fires.
On Friday afternoon two Great Danes were rescued from a house fire at 117 Narragansette Drive. No one was injured.
