Tennessee wants to host new U.S. Space Academy in Coffee County

Tennessee is hoping to be the future home of a planned United States Space Academy campus established by President Donald Trump.

Gov. Bill Lee on Wednesday announced the state’s intent to pursue a bid to bring the academy to Coffee County, near Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma.

That would place the campus within the “Tennessee Valley Aerospace Corridor” that includes the Air Force base, the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The Coffee County Joint Industrial Park is the state’s proposed location, according to a press release Wednesday. It’s between Manchester and Tullahoma, 71 miles from Nashville, 77 miles from Chattanooga and 65 miles from Huntsville, according to a state flyer.
