City Council members are set to vote tonight on a project in which Volkswagen would use methane gas from an old city landfill.
But some council members expressed concern a few weeks ago about the contract.
“Both parties can back out at any time until Nov. 15,” Wade Hinton, Volkswagen attorney, told council members today.
The council discussed the matter at the Legal and Legislative Committee meeting. Council members talked a week ago about the project, but deferred a decision because of contract concerns and whether the city would be on the hook for any expenses.
Hinton told the council that VW wants to buy the gas from the city at 50 cents a dekatherm, resulting in about $70,000 in annual revenue for the city.
The council will vote on the matter at its 6 p.m. regularly scheduled business meeting.
