Chattanooga Lookouts enter new world of pitch clocks
Herschel “Boog” Powell’s two-run single to center field off Cole Johnson with two out in the ninth inning capped a four-run rally by Montgomery and gave the Biscuits a 4-3 victory in the season opener Thursday night against visiting Chattanooga.
The Lookouts led 3-0 entering the ninth, but reliever Nick Burdi allowed a single and four walks and threw a wild pitch before being replaced by Johnson.
Lookouts starting pitcher Tyler Duffey racked up 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Chattanooga took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Jorge Polanco and Dalton Hicks and extended its advantage to 3-0 in the ninth when Miguel Sano homered to center.
Game two of the five-game series in Montgomery is tonight at 8:05 EDT. Jose Berrios is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Austin Pruitt scheduled for the Biscuits.
