Passing the torch

Max Fuller, chairman and CEO of Chattanooga-based U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc., believes his current top managers could be the best leadership team he has had in place since co-founding the company 30 years ago this month with the late Pat Quinn.

“The team’s performing at a very high level at this point,” he says. “So my job’s easy.”

Through the years, U.S. Xpress has had only a handful of leadership teams, and the most recent installment represents a new approach – and new generation.

“It became apparent that we needed to do a refresh of the management team, and it made sense to put the new generation in place,” Fuller says.

Eric Fuller, Max Fuller’s son, serves as president and chief operating officer. Lisa Pate, daughter of Quinn, serves as chief administrative officer. Eric Peterson serves as chief financial officer, and Max Fuller maintains his position as chairman and chief executive.
