PIKEVILLE, Tenn. — Alcoa on Friday looked more like a team that had won seven consecutive state championships than a team that came into the Class 3A state-playoff game at Bledsoe County with a 7-4 record.
With three more performances like the one the Tornadoes displayed in a 48-0 whipping of the Warriors, it will be eight consecutive titles.
Alcoa, which next week will play the winner between Polk County and Christian Academy of Knoxville, could do no wrong Friday. The Tornadoes’ first play from scrimmage was a reverse to Vanderbilt Hambrick that went for 53 yards. Quarterback D.J. Oggs scored from the 13 on the next play with 10:15 left in the first quarter, and the rout was on.
“We knew they were a high-caliber, high-quality football team,” Bledsoe coach Jason Reel said. “We knew we had to come out and do the small things well. They took advantage of some things. That’s what they do, and they do it well.”
The Tornadoes outrushed Bledsoe County 147-7 in the first quarter and by halftime Alcoa had amassed 288 yards of offense. Two Alcoa quarterbacks completed passes to five receivers before halftime and seven Tornadoes had rushed the ball. Freshman Jacquez Tyson’s 19-yard scoring run four minutes before the break made it 42-0.
