When two men were pulled over for playing excessively loud music in Dalton, Ga. the noise violation became the last of their concerns after police found both of them had outstanding warrants as well as more than a pound of meth and a handgun in the car.
Officer Clinton Travis was on patrol near Walnut Avenue and Silver Circle when he heard music coming from a 2002 Ford Excursion that was coming down the road.
Since he could hear it well after the car passed, he pulled the car over and the driver, 38-year-old Jeremiah Lee Thomison, said he was just trying out a new sound system.
After checking Thomison’s license, the officer found he had an outstanding warrant for possession of meth with the intent to distribute and when a second officer arrived, he took the man into custody.
Thomison then asked officers if the other man, 19-year-old Albert Estrada could drive his car home, but when officers checked his license, they found he also had an outstanding warrant, this time for forgery. Officers also noticed the car smelled like marijuana and found a small amount on Estrada.
A search of the car revealed 4 ounces of meth, a half ounce of marijuana, digital scales and a 9mm handgun.
This prompted an investigation by the Dalton Police Department’s Drug Unit which revealed an additional 16 ounces of meth from another location. The total amount of meth is worth an estimated $4,800.
Both Thomison and Estrada were charged with trafficking meth, possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of drug related objects.
Estrada was also charged with forgery in the third degree on his warrant, and Thomison was charged with a noise violation for the loud music that originally got the pair pulled over.
