While threats of a snow blast dried up this morning, the Dade County public works team is still preparing for dangerous roads later today.
Director of Emergency Services Alex Case said the roads department is monitoring the higher elevations on Lookout and Sand mountains, worried that water from Monday night’s rain will linger and turn into ice as temperatures cool tonight.
Like everywhere else in the region, workers have salted the roads. But they are particularly worried about Burkhalter Gap Road, Brow Road and White Oak Gap Road. They hope sun will come out this afternoon and dry the pavement.
On Lookout Mountain, meteorologists predicts the weather will remain below freezing today and dip into the low 20s and high teens beginning around 9 p.m.
“It’s going to freeze if we don’t get any sun out,” Case said. “With windchill like that, it’s not going to dry.”
