TUCKER, Ga. – Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a fire that claimed the life of a woman and her two daughters in Tucker, just northeast of Atlanta.

Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that investigators on Thursday returned to the site of the Feb. 9 blaze to further explore the scene and try to understand what happened.

Authorities said the girls who died were ages 9 and 11. Rutledge said the woman’s husband was able to make it out of the house.

Rutledge tells WAGA-TV that it’s not uncommon for investigators to return to the scene of a fatal fire as part of their investigation. The day after the blaze, fire officials said in a statement that no foul play was suspected.
