Milligan College tightened up the Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s soccer standings Saturday night by scoring three late-second-half goals and winning 3-1 at previously first-place Bryan.

Milligan, 8-4 overall, improved to 6-1 in the league while knocking the NAIA’s 15th-ranked Lions (10-3-1) to 6-1-1, same as Tennessee Wesleyan.

Bryan’s Nathan Adams opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, but Nimely Robertson equalized in the 77th with an assist from Nahom Tekle, who put the Buffaloes ahead less than four minutes later. Joel Martin made it 3-1 in the final minute.

The Lions outshot the visitors 19-10 and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but Dan Ball made five saves for Milligan. Josh Oldroyd had four for Bryan.

The Milligan women stayed tied for first place with Montreat by downing the Lady Lions 2-0 on an early goal by Jacklyn Orange and a late score by Raelyn Hunt. Stephanie Gagnon made 16 saves for Bryan (3-11-1, 2-6-1), which was outshot 21-4 with a 9-1 disadvantage in corner kicks.
