A new event is launching tonight at Cleveland’s Museum Center at Five Points that combines the all-American fun of a cookout with big-band swing music.
“Red, White and Blues” will feature the Sassy Brass Big Band, a 25-piece ensemble from within the Greater Cleveland Community Stage Band.
“It’s their jazz band. I’ve heard them, and they’re really good,” said Lisa Simpson Lutts, museum director.
The musicians range in age from 15 to 88 and represent a variety of occupations, including TVA and Bowater employees, retired military, teachers, students, engineers and even piano tuner, according to a news release about the band.
Lutts said a $5 ticket, which may be purchased at the door, includes grilled hamburgers, chips and trimmings. Guests can savor their burgers inside the air-conditioned museum while enjoying the Sassy Band’s big-band music, classic rock, funk and modern jazz.
The laid-back atmosphere will provide a relaxing way for adults to kick off the July 4 weekend.
Proceeds from the cookout will benefit the Greater Cleveland Community Stage Band, The Family Foundation and the museum.
