Central goes to Dotson

Marquis Dotson has been named head wrestling coach at Central as successor to Steve Price.

With help from Dotson, Josh Edmondson and Joey Knox, Price directed the 2010-11 team to the school’s first state championship in any sport since 1990. Price, who took over the program three years ago when John Crawford retired and moved to Heritage across the state line, has resigned as a teacher and coach at the Harrison school.

When contacted Thursday evening via text message, Price confirmed that he had stepped down to enter the private business sector. He said he could not talk because he was working at his new job.

Central made it to the state duals tournament two years ago but lost to eventual state champion Hixson in the semifinals. The Purple Pounders won the Class A/AA duals crown this past season, besting Franklin 30-26. Central has 12 state championships altogether – six in football, five in baseball, two in wrestling and one each in boys’ golf and boys’ basketball.

Dotson, who likely will continue teaching at Orchard Knob Middle School, met Thursday with Central principal Finley King.
