Rain pushes back 5 softball tourneys

Five of the six district tournaments involving area softball teams were affected Monday because of rain. Four will maintain the same bracket blueprint and push everything back one day.

District 5-A, which was able to get in one of its two scheduled games Monday, could not make that adaptation. Its “if necessary” game was originally scheduled for Friday, the TSSAA’s deadline for district tournaments to end, so that could not be moved to Saturday.

Arts & Sciences will play at Silverdale Baptist today at 4 p.m. Copper Basin will play the loser afterward.

Tennessee Temple is scheduled to play today against Boyd-Buchanan, which lost to Grace Academy on Monday. However, six Lady Crusaders sing in the school chorus, which has a concert planned at 6. Coaches were trying to work the situation out in that half of the bracket Monday night.

The District 7-AA final at Coalmont between Bledsoe County and Sequatchie County has been rescheduled for today at 6 EDT. If Sequatchie County wins, a second game would be played afterward.

Others playing a day later include District 6-A at Jasper, where two winners-bracket games are slated. Sale Creek will face host Marion County at 4:30 EDT and Lookout Valley will play South Pittsburg at 6:30.

Red Bank is set to face East Ridge in District 6-AA and East Hamilton is scheduled to play Central in winners-bracket games at Warner Park today at 5. The losing teams will play again at 7 with either Red Bank or East Ridge going against Hixson and either East Hamilton or Central taking on Tyner.

Meigs County is hosting Sweetwater in the District 5-AA winners-bracket final today at 5. McMinn Central is playing at Polk County in a losers-bracket game at 5:30.
