The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reports the following roads have been closed because of icy and hazardous conditions:

Roberts Mill Road, Fairmont Pike, Montlake Road, Mountain Road, Mowbray Mountain, Shoal Creek Road and Ochs Highway. are closed.

Also use caution driving on Ooltewah-Georgetown Road and Taft Highway, the sheriff’s office said.

The W Road is now open

In Whitfield County, Dug Gap Mountain Road is temporarily closed, authorities said. Westbound drivers are asked to detour from Walnut Avenue to College Drive to Highway 41 and onto Highway 201/Old LaFayette Road. Eastbound drivers are asked to take Mill Creek Road to Highway 201/Old LaFayette Road.

Signs are up to direct the detour, said Jerry Bolton, county road maintenance supervisor. Crews have plowed Dug Gap Mountain Road, but it continues to become covered by snow, he said..

Most roads in Dalton remain clear, but some secondary roads in the north part of the county and in the Westside area are covered in a few inches of snow, said Mr. Bolton.

Mr. Bolton said Dug Gap Mountain Road will be cleared as soon as the snow stops, which is expected sometime this evening.

In Bradley County, several roads are slick and hazardous, authorities report.

The weather has caused several traffic accidents in the area, said Bradley County Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Gault.

Conditions are worse on roads in rural areas, he said, and people should avoid driving if at all possible.
