Fort Payne, Ala., authorities have arrested two people they say attempted to extort money from DeKalb County’s current director of DeKalb Ambulance Service.
Timothy Wade Bevel, 51, and his wife, Shelli Ranee Bevel, 47, both of Fort Payne, were charged on May 2 with extortion, second degree, Fort Payne police Chief Randy Bynum said in a statement.
“These arrests were the result of an investigation by the Fort Payne Police Department Detectives and Dekalb County Major Crimes Taskforce,” Bynum said. “The extortion charges stem from Mr. Bevel, a former employee of Dekalb Ambulance Service, and his wife attempting to extort money from current Dekalb Ambulance Service Director Cheryl Turner.”
Bynum did not describe the details of the extortion offenses.
The Bevels were jailed at the DeKalb County Detention Center. They have since been released on bond.
