Joe Legge, an anchor at WDEF since 2006, will be in charge of Walker County, Ga., government public relations.
Commissioner Shannon Whitfield said during last year’s campaign that he wanted to hire an employee to handle public records requests. He announced Legge’s appointment in a press release this evening.
“I feel very fortunate that we were able to find someone of Joe’s caliber to fulfill this role,” Whitfield said. “I believe this will increase citizen participation, pride in our communities, and will continue my commitment for a new direction and future for Walker County.”
According to his LinkedIn page, Legge has been a producer and anchor for the Chattanooga TV station for 11 years, anchoring the morning show for the last 5 of those years. The Tennessee Associated Press named him “Best News Anchor” in 2010, according to WDEF’s website. He also won a Krystal hamburger competition among local media members in 2008.
“I am thrilled Commissioner Whitfield placed his trust in my abilities to improve communication within Walker County,” Legge said in a statement tonight.
