The Main Attraction

Dunlap’s annual Valley Fest begins April 30. The event features live music, a car show, a beauty pageant and all the countrified cuisine one could dream of. And at the heart of its culinary offerings? Dunlap’s beloved Cookie Jar Cafe, of course.

Located on a family farm in the picturesque Sequatchie Valley, Cookie Jar specializes in down-home dinners and scratch-made confections, including tortes, cakes, pies and more. Some of its best-selling recipes are the rib-eye steak, meatloaf and chicken tenders. The menu also boasts a number of classic Southern sides. But during Valley Fest, Cookie Jar will be serving what owner Sue Ann Lockhart describes as “special occasion food.”

Cafe eats will include chicken and dumplings, pulled smoked pork and smoked chicken. Naturally, there will also be a lip-smacking sweets selection.

“Strawberries are in full swing!” declared Sue Ann.

Both the restaurant and the festival will be featuring an assortment of the cafe’s fruity confections: strawberry cheesecake, fresh strawberry cake, strawberry shortcake and triple-stacked strawberry torte made with pecan crust and a blend of Cool Whip, cream cheese and fresh, ripe berries.
