I favor a memorial to our Medal of Honor recipients and all our veterans. Definitely.
However, I do not favor the proposed design for the heritage center. To me, it is ponderous, anchored in our treasured past.
Our soldiers also fought to preserve for us a future. I would like to see a memorial that challenges us to that future. A memorial that reflects our disparate dreams, our melting pot of talent. A memorial to our national genius. A memorial that reminds us to keep striving always forward toward a more perfect union, with wisdom, imagination and compassion – perhaps a grand patio looking out on the wide open fields of the surrounding park.
